The Academy was founded in 1886, with the primary purpose of providing its members professional collegiality and continuing education. We currently hold eight programs per year, on the third Tuesday of the month, including annual talks on bioethics and the history of medicine.
Committees of the Academy currently include History of Medicine, Membership, and Programming. The Academy also maintains a collection of rare medical books of historical significance at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Academy has a governing Council and a Board of Trustees. Membership dues are currently $225 per year. In addition, members are billed for dinner for the meetings they choose to attend.
Those applying for membership will be asked to submit a copy of their curriculum vitae to the Academy office to circulate to our Membership Committee. A letter of nomination will also be required from a current Academy member. The Academy office can assist with requesting the nomination letter on behalf of the applicant.
